Chalong town clerk (palad) Wutipong Promtawee had cleaning fluid thrown in his face and was then beaten in his office by 35-year-old Montien Homsanit of Chantaburi, who claimed that Mr Wutipong had seduced his niece.
Mr Wutipong vehmently denied Montien’s accusation, and demanded an official inquiry into what he said was the real reason behind the attack – a violent quarrel with unidentified municipal staff over changes he made in work procedures.
On Wednesday (October 10) the Provincial Office ordered Mr Wutipong transferred “temporarily” to “assist” the Phuket Provincial Operations Centre to Fight and Win Against Drugs, with effect from next Monday (October 15)
The Office said the palad, who has been in Chalong 10 years, “is viewed as having knowledge and experience operating at the provincial level in many provinces before transferring to a post with local government.”
A committee appointed to investigate the attack on Mr Wutipong “will summarise its report for the governor’s information”, though no date was set for the summary to be completed.
