TECH: Christie’s auction house in London is selling one of the world’s first humanoid robots: Gygan, a radio-controlled and electrically-powered robot built by Italian engineer Ing Fiorito in the 1950s.

Gygan was first unveiled at a fair in Milan in 1957 and brought to London the following year, where it astonished crowds before becoming part of a private collection.

It stands at over two metres tall and weighs about half-a-tonne.

It is expected to sell to a collector for about £8,000 (B363,000).
