Another Phuket beach restaurant bites the dust

PHUKET: Another restaurant fell yesterday afternoon (August 14) to the rolling demolition along Phuket’s beaches, as officers from Sirinart Marine National Park, backed by Royal Thai Navy Marines descended on Nai Yang Beach.

In a very short time they ripped down Batik Seafood restaurant and a house built by the restaurant’s owner, Suchart Petcharat.

Officials said that Mr Suchart had already been warned that the house and restaurant were built illegally on park land, and had been told to demolish both. When the deadline passed and he had still not demolished the structures, the Park team moved in. He will be sent a bill for the cost of demolition.

Owners of many other buildings along Nai Yang Beach have been served with orders to demolish. Officials confirmed that when the deadline expires without action by the owners, then these buildings, too, will be ripped down.

More demolitions took place yesterday along Bang Tao Bay, mostly of small wooden restaurants and bars.

One must not forget that this work is to bring happiness to the Thai People. Those who break the law cannot go unpunished and therefore this action of demolition brings happiness to the law abiding citizens of Thailand. Good work.

It is the way it should be done in Phuket for all illegal properties built inside Sirinath National Park, Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Sanctuary, National Reserves, Forests, forest and agricultural land above the 80-meter limit and all building constructions built on land with a slope of more than 35%; without any bargain and compensation.
