Argh, the poetic innocence of youth methinks. Whereas, my minds eye was drifting more in tune with a slight gust that made the light dance with a fiery glint.
I plucked the only tune I could muster on her toy guitar – the intro to Deep Purple’s Smoke on the Water. It transformed the shores of Lake Geneva to Phuket and I thought, ‘By crikey, that’s what this town needs.’ And thus a Big Night Out was borne.
The lake at the bottom of my garden wasn’t suitable, so I set out in search for a rock solid dwelling to host Phuket’s ‘Woodstock’. The Alan Cooke Ground(ACG) was perfect; essentially a cricket club, in the most picturesque of settings complete, may I add, with an adjacent lake, should Deep Purple turn up unannounced.
To lend it the required potent mix of eclectic vibes best served for a good old fashioned rock n roll knees-up, I set to work on the bands. Elephant in the Room offer that warm nostalgia through tunes we thought we’d forgotten, plus a couple of originals thrown in the mix.
Black and Blue are a blues, soul and classic rock band with age ranges from 24-64, and play the congas too, so that’ll get the hips moving. 4 of a Kind deliver the festival hits, and are as it says on the tin; who’s kind? Their kind, your kind, my kind, our kind.
And what’s this; The Blues Revival belt out the blues with a sweet twang that makes them gold!
Legends of Siam may have the collective age of that one fella in Black n Blue, but they play a mix of classics and originals like vets, in fact, like legends. The Fuzztonez completes the line-up with their funky overtones of rhythm, blues, rock, pop, cowboy and punk – aye caramba, what a party!
Offering the trimmings are the resident Boundary Bar, Grizzly’s beer garden, plus an array of food, and ‘all the fun of the fair stalls’.
None of this is possible without our friends; ACG, Salt, Ceramic Kitchen, AM Production, PCS, Grizzly’s, Boundary Bar, Island Furniture, Lady Pie, The Courtyard, The Phuket News, Novosti Phuketa and Live 89.5.
The event is on March 23. Doors open at 5pm, and the first band starts at 5.30pm.
Pre-sale tickets are B100 and are available from Salt, Grizzly’s, Boundary Bar, Chili’s, Lady Pie, Ceramic Kitchen, Peppers and RPM fitness centre. Otherwise entry is B300 on the gate.
