However, The Phuket News has contacted Phuket Immigration office and they have advised they have received no information regarding this matter, but it is possible to do your 90 day report by post.

A team member here at The Phuket News, Anton Makhrov, has recently used the postal service and although he says the proces is slow, it is worth doing, as long as you send your paperwork at least two weeks prior to your reporting date.

Hmmm...seems like an easy way for criminal law breakers to forge documents and copies and thus stay here indefinitely. I recently went to Patong Immigration for my 90 day check, and was in and out of there in less than 10 minutes...no charge (although last time it cost 200 baht, graft day I guess).
