Speaking at the Phuket Provincial Hall, Vice Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada said that he had received numerous complaints from consuls on the island about inadequate public transport in Phuket.
Other common complaints were of taxi drivers stealing, overcharging, driving dangerously and giving poor service.
The Vice Governor said that this affects the image of Phuket Province. “Phuket is a tourist destination so Phuket transportation should be approved and high-quality.”
The committee said that it was a reasonable request to improve Phuket’s transportation. They also reasoned that customers should have more choice and should be able to choose from different forms of transportation and expect fair prices. The introduction of more meter taxis would ensure this, they said.
Wantha Phummararossukon, a technical specialist at the Phuket Provincial Transport Office said, “We would also like every transportation group and private driver on the island to register as soon as possible.”
