Acting on a tip-off from Bangkok, Chamreu Chamniklang, the head of Phuket Customs Investigation, on Tuesday went to the bus terminal, where they found “strange” packages wrapped in green plastic.

Inside were sport shoes, women’s shoes, clothes, belts, shorts and caps, all copied from famous brands including Yves St Laurent, Nike and Prada. The retail value of the items was estimated at around B1.5 million.

Mr Chamreu said, “The owner of the packages did not come to pick them up.”

He added that he has handled 32 similar cases this year, with items totalling about B3.5 million in street value.

The items were taken away to be destroyed.
