Speaking at a meeting held at 11:30am yesterday (Feb 26) at the meeting room of Phuket Provincial Hall, Phuket Governor Norraphat Plothong called upon Director of the Natural Resources and Environment Phuket office Nonthawan Jamlonggat and Patong Mayor Chalermluck Kepsap to provide an update on the wastewater situation at Patong Bay.

“I want to know the most up-to-date information on this environmental problem from them before I inspect the area at 5pm tomorrow (Feb 27),” Gov Norraphat said.

“Everyone must work together in order to solve the problem at Tritrang Beach urgently.

“Tomorrow I will go with a specialist from Prince of Songkla University (PSU) Phuket Campus to inspect the area, and i must be provided with solutions on how we can save the environment and tourism image,” Gov Norraphat added.

On Feb 11, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Dr Wijarn Simachaya, ordered Gov Norraphat and Mayor Chalermluck to quickly resolve the issue of untreated wastewater being pumped into the sea in Patong Bay.

Dr Wijarn’s order came following an inspection of the area at 3pm on Feb 11, with Gov Norraphat Plodthong, Mayor Chalermluk and other local government officials also in attendance. (See story here.)

Pass by any klong or "food court" in Thailand and sewage aroma will invade you. The entire country has loose resolve and low concern for proper sewage/wet garbage treatment. Phuket is a prominent, sad example of unrestricted growth and lack of infrastructure planning. Since 'clean' water is now mostly distributed by tanker trucks, perhaps they can haul away the sewage when emp...

Has a deadline for anything in Phuket ever been met?

I can think of thousands of deadlines that I have read about but can’t ever think of any of them being met? From underpasses to illegal structures to illegal businesses to taxis, beaches ..... nothing. Anyone know of one?

So whats it to be ? Swimming in untreated or treated sewage ? The only way this problem will be solved is a 40 to 60 inch beach pull pipeline layed out to 20 nautical miles plus off the coast out into the Andaman Sea with sub-sea diffussers fitted. MONEY$$$$$$$$.
Whilst swimming in Patong Bay, if you get any down your snorkel, just suck it in & chew it all up.

Why just Patong Bay??? This is a Phuket-wide problem that is getting worse by the day as more and more massive developments get slammed into the landscape. Not only the increase in sewage and wastewater after project completion, but also siltation during construction that buries struggling new coral growth (Kalim Bay). Phuket needs more modern treatment facilities...not more looking into.

Oh, a paper dead line, A up date deadline, to show Bangkok that is has Phuket Province authorities attention to inspect/look, and report
Probably followed by a 'lip service order
Now, has it been ordered to connect the hundreds of Patong houses, guesthouses with the waste water sewage plant?
Can make the connections now, and start operating when plant is ready
Anticipate in ordering
