Wenger’s side would have moved four points clear of fifth placed Tottenham with a win over Everton on Tuesday, but they had to settle for a frustrating point after struggling with the visitors’ physical approach at the Emirates Stadium.
On Sunday, Robin van Persie ended his scoring drought as Manchester United moved nearer the Premier League title with a 2-0 win against Stoke.
Van Persie scored with a second half penalty that ended a run of 10 games without a goal, after Michael Carrick opened the scoring by pushing home a corner.
The win ensured United once again lead the Premier League by 15 points.
Earlier on Sunday, Sunderland romped to a 3-0 win at Newcastle United – their biggest win over their North East rivals in 34 years.
Stephane Sessegnon gave the visitors the lead in the 27 the minute and Adam Johnson (74) and substitute David Vaughan (82) completed the resounding victory.
On Saturday, Arsenal scored three times in the last five minutes to beat Norwich 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium and leap to third place in the Premier League table.
A header by Michael Turner looked to have consigned Arsene Wenger’s men to defeat, but Mikel Arteta equalised with an 85th-minute penalty before a Sebastien Bassong own-goal and an injury-time strike from Lukas Podolski completed the comeback.
Everton closed to within three points of the top four after winning 2-0 at home to Queens Park Rangers.
Darron Gibson broke the deadlock in the 40th minute, and Victor Anichebe flicked in a Sylvain Distin knock-down 11 minutes into the second half.
Reading, meanwhile, are still bottom of the table, but they drew level on points with QPR after withstanding a Liverpool onslaught in a 0-0 draw at the Madejski Stadium.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa spurned an opportunity to haul themselves out of the relegation picture in a 1-1 draw at home to Fulham.
Charles N’Zogbia put Villa ahead 10 minutes into the second half with a high finish from an Andreas Weimann cutback, only for Fabian Delph to inadvertently head Bryan Ruiz’s corner into his own goal 11 minutes later.
Andy Carroll marked his return to the West Ham United starting XI with a second-half equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Southampton.
Gaston Ramirez gave Southampton the lead shortly before the hour, but Carroll levelled the scores seven minutes later with a deflected free-kick.
