Villagers in Mu 8 said that no one had been injured when the mini-tornadoes twisted their way through the village at 1am, but roofs had been ripped off or damaged.
In one case, the roof of one house was lifted and dumped on the roof of another.
Authorities are preparing to declare the area a disaster zone in order to get emergency funding to pay for repairs to the damaged houses.
Villagers are wondering what they have done to deserve the damaging attentions of Mother Nature – the village is close to the epicentre of the quake that rattled Phuket on April 16.
They said that before that quake they had never experienced quakes or tornadoes in the village.
