"In giving a progress report on preparations for the restart of iron and steel making at its Teesside site, SSI UK announced today that plans are now finalised to restart the blast furnace over this weekend," said a statement.
"The first iron suitable for conversion into steel will be produced within two or three days of the furnace restart.
"This will mark the resumption of steelmaking on Teesside following the mothballing of the operations in February, 2010," it added.
SSI had revealed last July that it planned to create 1,000 jobs with the resumption of operations at the facility.
The Thai group bought the Teesside Cast Products plant in Redcar for about $470 million in February 2011 after it had been mothballed by Corus, a unit of India's Tata Steel.
"I am very pleased that we can now look forward to resuming steelmaking at Teesside after a two-year absence," SSI UK chief executive Phil Dryden said in Friday's statement.
"This is an historic event and I would like to record my appreciation to all those who have been involved, for their commitment and hard work, on what has been a complex and demanding restart programme.
"We now look forward to creating a successful and sustainable business which will benefit the local community and external stakeholders for generations to come."
