Bhumibol, the world's longest reigning monarch, sent his condolences to his neighbouring counterpart King Norodom Sihamoni over the death of his father Sihanouk, who suffered a fatal heart attack in Beijing early Monday.

"The Queen and I have learnt with deepest sorrow of the demise of His Majesty the King Father Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia," he said in a statement released by his principal private secretary.

"We would like to share with Your Majesty and all the Members of the Royal Family as well as the people of the Kingdom of Cambodia our profound feelings of sadness, and to extend our heartfelt sympathy and condolences for this great loss to your country and people," he added.
