Suspicious package triggers Phuket bomb alarm

PHUKET: Rassada post office went on high alert today (March 16) after a suspiciously heavy parcel was delivered, with fears it may have contained explosives.

The parcel, dropped off by a Phuket sender, was apparently destined for the restive Narathiwat province in Thailand’s deep south.

Police Lt Col Eakkasit Pinkaew was first on the scene, but decided to evacuate the premises and call in bomb disposal experts to the site.

And while the bomb threat proved to be a false alarm, officers did manage to score a minor drug bust instead – the package contained 30 bottles of cough syrup, which can be used to produce the stimulant 4x100.

Possession of that quantity of cough syrup is illegal, and police are now searching for the sender to face questioning.
