The opening of the centre, next to the Surin Beach football field, was chaired by Governor Maitree Intusut; the Mayor of Cherng Talay, Ma-an Samran; and Chanchai Duangjit, head of the Phuket branch of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
“Cherng Talay has a lot of beautiful places to visit, especially the beaches, which attracted a large number of tourists both domestic and foreign,” Mr Ma-an said. “The centre offers essential information such as details of transportation, accommodation and security.”
Operations at the centre are provided not only by local officials but also by representatives of businesses in the Surin Beach area.
“This is real tourism promotion integration, benefitting all tourist, businesses in the area, local people and the image of Phuket tourism,” Mr Ma-an said.
Cherng Talay Municipality has also set up a rescue team to cover all accidents, municipal police to take care of tourists, and the centre has a prayer room for Muslims.
The centre is currently open from 8 am to 5 pm daily, with 24-hour security coverage. It is hoped that it will be possible to have all other facilities open round the clock at a later date.
