The Games, which will bring 10,000 young sportspeople from around the country to Phuket, kick off this Saturday (May 26) and run until June 5.
“This centre is now ready to use,” V/Gov Sommai said.
“There will be staff on standby to provide information for tourists and athletes such as the scores and games schedule. There will also be souvenirs for sale.”
Phuket Sports Authority of Thailand director Wirat Patee explained about the sea dragon mascot of the games, named Hai Leng.
“There are 20,000 of these mascots. Half of them will be given to the athletes and the others will be put on sale in the centre, Rajabhat University, Phuket Vocational College and at each sports stadium,” Mr Wirat said.
He said Phuket was definitely prepared for the event in terms of the stadium, accommodation and traffic control, including three parking areas at and around Surakul Stadium.
The Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (OrBorJor) has also confirmed details for the athletes’ party, to be held at the centre stage at Saphan Hin park on May 25 from 5.30pm.
Food will be organised by teachers and students from Phuket Vocational College.
The youngsters will compete in 40 sports at various venues across the island, the main ones being the stadia at Surakul, Saphan Hin, Rajabhat Phuket and Kathu.
