As reported in The Phuket News earlier this monthan apparent lack of foresight looked like leaving the beaches unattended from May 27 – when the current contract between the OrBorJor and the Phuket Lifeguard Club (PLC) expires – and July.

But today (May 21) the president of the PLC, Prathaiyut Chuayuan said that he met yesterday with Jutaporn Thongchareon, head of the OrBorJor’s tourism promotion section, and discussed a short-term contract until the OrBorJor can put the new contract out to tender and decide which bid to accept.

After discussion we agreed on a new short-term contract running from May 28 to June 28.” He added that he expects the contract to be signed tomorrow (May 22) or the next day.

As for the new long-term contract, he said, “As far as I know they are trying to speed up the process in order to complete it before June 28.”

Ms Jutaporn told The Phuket News this afternoon, “The [short-term] contract with PLC will be signed soon; I can’t confirm exactly when.”

She added, “For sure the bidding process and signing of the new long-term contract will be completed before the short contract expires.” The new one, she added would be for 11 months only.
