Teen band Sicma took top honours, and will proceed to the final, joining heat one winners Notorious.
Saturday’s event kicked off with a performance by last year’s winners, Legends of Siam.
After Legends of Siam, the battle began with the youngest contestants to date, the five-piece all girl band from the British International School, The Kids Next Door.
Still in primary school, this was their first ever performance, and while all but the lead vocalist looked like young deer in the headlights; they put on a spirited performance and won the hearts of the audience.
Next up were Thai language band Lost Soul. Clearly no strangers to the stage, this six-piece band rocked the crowd and impressed the panel of judges.
Despite playing to a predominately foreigner audience, they were confident and the young singer strutted her stuff and worked the crowd.
The penultimate band competing for the place in the final were Siobhan’s Music Studio’s newest and youngest band Soul.
The five-piece have been together for just a few months and are still feeling their way around each other, but with some well chosen songs and a little more time together this young band will be one to keep an eye on.
All are competent players, and the band holds not one, but two fantastic vocal talents.
The competition ended with a performance by Sicma, the second Thai language band for the day.
From the moment the singer opened her mouth, all present knew they would be in for something special. And Sicma delivered on that promise with an avalanche of sound and a vocal performance that would rival the best on the island.
Nattawadee Dokkrathin, aged 17 and the band’s new lead singer, held the audience transfixed as she worked her way through the bands two songs done in their own style, ending will all in the room on their feet as she sang the last notes of I Will Survive to end the day’s competition, and take her band through to the final.
