Samsung said their 5G tests saw data transmission of more than one gigabyte per second over a distance of two kilometres.
The new technology, which should turn up in commercial handsets around 2020, promises transmission speeds “up to several hundred times faster” than 4G networks.
It uses a special antenna configuration to transmit on millimetre-wave band radio frequencies, which have proved challenging to use over long distances.
