The accident occurred on a road behind the Pha Ngan district police station in Surat Thani. Reports said that the 26-year-old woman was carrying her child in front of her in a baby carrier when her motorcycle was struck by another bike. The baby died within minutes.
The mother, identified only by the surname Antonova, sustained a shattered collarbone and a broken left arm and was also traumatised by the loss of her son. She is currently receiving treatment at Bangkok Hospital Samui, Channel 3 said on its website.
Police found a fender part belonging to the bike that collided with the victim's at the crash site. A preliminary investigation revealed the bike was a bronze-coloured Mitsubishi motorcycle driven by a foreigner.
Police are still working on obtaining the bike's licence plate and trying to determine the exact identity of the driver, the report said.
