Drivers wanting to go to Phuket Town from Patong, or the other way, are advised to go through the intersection next to Central Festival for the next few days, to avoid the traffic bottlenecks caused by the roadworks.
The intersection regularly floods during heavy rain to a depth of half a metre or more. The new drain, being laid by the Highways Department and OrBorTor Kathu, is intended to solve this problem.
The work should be completed by next Thursday (July 5).
