Live 89.5's breakfast show host Sam Clarke, left, and The Phuket News' former sports editor Dane Halpin battled it out last year for the supreme hot dog eating title.

But both men will have to keep an eye on last year’s winner, Russian man Alexander Zavalnyy, who today confirmed he will be back to defend his title and contest the B10,000 prize money again.

In the competition, Sam, the two Alexanders and other participants will race to see who can eat the most chicken burgers in 15 minutes.

During last year’s competition, which featured hot dogs, Alex managed to eat eight hot dogs in 10 minutes. Sam finished on a disappointing five.

When asked today about the impending competition, Sam said both Russian men would likely “destroy” him in the challenge, but was still somehow optimistic about his chances.

“It depends on if they have mayonnaise or not. If there’s mayo, I think I can do five. If there’s no mayo then maybe six or seven. I’m a big chicken fan, and I’m always up for a free meal.

“May the best muncher win.”

Alexander Semenov said he was not nervous about the competition, and said the number he could eat largely depended on the size of the burgers.

He usually ate pretty healthily and avoided junk food, and said Saturday’s competition might be a challenge as he did not like burgers.

“But I want to win B10,000.”

Competitors will also be given soft drink and water, and anyone who is sick will be immediately disqualified.

The burger eating event starts at 1pm and is open to anyone older than 20 years old, and of any nationality.

As well as the burger eating competition, there will also be a B-Boy Battle (breakdancing) to find the best B-Boy dance team in Phuket.

Each team must have five people, and the competition is open to any age group and any nationality. The winning team will be awarded B15,000.

For more information, contact 086 281 4011.

Entrants need to bring their passport, ID card or birth certificate when registering. Those entering the B-Boy competition need to bring a 5x7 inch photo of their team, and their dance song must be no more than five minutes long.
