Cherry recently picked up a virus, and although she received hospital treatment, doctors were unable to stop fluid passing to her lungs and brain and she passed away on Wednesday morning (Sept 21).
Speaking to The Phuket News following Cherry’s death, PPL organiser Scott Griffin said, “Today we lost one of our best pool players, 31-year-old Cherry Andy. She was always so happy and was a great player.
“Everyone in the pool league knew her and she will really be missed by us all,”
But Cherry’s death didn’t mean league action had to stop, in fact, Scott said that continuing with the league as per usually is what Cherry would have wanted.
“She loved her pool and would have wanted play to go on. Cherry wouldn’t have wanted us to cancel the games despite us all being in state of shock at losing such a great person,” he said.
And in last Thursday’s action, Wet Dreams managed to extend their lead at the top of the table to five points following a 7-4 win away to Martin Swiss, and 1Bar suffering a shock 6-5 loss away to Ting Tong Bar only helped them ease away slightly from those in contention for the top spot.
Ting Tong’s win also moved them up to 3rd in the table now just one point away from 2nd placed 1Bar and six from 1st placed Wet Dreams.
Elsewhere, Champs Bar suffered a big 2-9 loss at home to M&M Bar giving M&M just their second win of the season, and dashing any hopes Champs had of catching up with those battling for the title.
Natalie Bar had the biggest win of the night thrashing Simon and Oils 10-1 at home and bringing them up to joint 4th in the table, while Dirty Nellies played away to Genius, but despite starting strong and winning most of the singles rounds, they still come away losers with the score at 6-5.
Sports Bar were awarded the automatic 11 points this week as they had been set to play Amigo who have already dropped out of the league.
Meanwhile, in the individuals player league, 1st placed Goh surprisingly lost his singles game meaning that 2nd placed Scott from Dirty Nellies is now only two points behind with only six games of the league remaining.
