Traffic policeman Kritchana Songsri told The Phuket News, “The ties holding the poles on the truck snapped and the poles slid backwards, causing the truck to rear up in the air.”
Traffic was jammed for about three hours after the mishap, on the hill going up from Kathu, while a crane and another truck were brought in to transfer the poles. No one and nothing was hurt apart from the driver’s ego.
Meanwhile, at about the same time police in Phuket Town stopped traffic and called the fire brigade after a Proton Exora car converted to run on LPG was rammed from behind, rupturing its gas tank.
The accident took place near the WorKor intersection on Thepkrassattree Rd in Phuket Town. The Proton, driven by Supanee Buasap, was stationary at the U-turn next to the Ayutthya Bank when it was hit.
No one was hurt but traffic was brought to a halt for 15 minutes while firemen hosed down the Proton after gas was detected as much as 10 metres from the car, having leaked from the tank.
