The aircraft was taking an aerial photographer up over the area to take night shots.
But it reportedly ran low on fuel and suffered electrical problems around midnight – and shocked residents in the town of Hendron watched the plane fly low over their neighbourhood, before pitching nose down into the house.
“He was about to hit a little bit lower, went down then up, then it just went boom,” said witness Sarah Maydwell.
The aircraft narrowly missed the gas main in the building, which is divided into apartments and home to several families.
Amazingly, no-one was seriously hurt in the aircraft or in the building – although four adults and two children were asleep in the apartment that got hit.
The pilot and one passenger walked out of the plane after they crashed into the living room, and tried to explain themselves to the shocked family.
The family told police that their bedrooms were untouched by the impact, and the pictures stayed on the walls.
They said they didn’t know that a plane had crashed in their living room until they opened their bedroom doors and saw it.
Resident David Ventura described his wife’s reaction: “She went from her room to the living room and she saw the plane. She was screaming and everything and one of the guys that was driving the plane told her to call 911. But she was so nervous that she couldn’t because she was in shock.”
