Witnesses said the car was travelling north, very fast through heavy rain and the driver apparently lost control.
The driver, identified as Pichai Chuaytan, 40, from Phuket, was seriously injured in the smash. He was taken first to Thalang Hospital and then transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital, where he died.
