Speaking to The Phuket News, Mr Desmond described watching as two separate bush fires joined into one large blaze – and he feared that the flames could spread towards his house.
“If it was a controlled fire, then it looked like it was out of control,” said Mr Desmond, before suggesting that the decision to have a fire at night time was 'rather irresponsible'.
“There were trees all around the blaze, which could have easily caught fire,” added Mr Desmond.
Mr Desmond and his wife watched the fire ‘enthralled’ until around 9.30pm, but then went to bed.
When they awoke this morning, the blaze appeared to be out, with little damage seemingly caused.
An local official from the area told The Phuket News this morning that the fire was controlled and was merely rubber trees being burned to the ground. No firefighters were called to the scene.
