Lt Boonserm Srikamara, Deputy Chief of the Thalang Traffic Police, arrived at the scene, in front of Thalang School, with rescue workers at about midday to find a Mitsubishi Pajero SUV across the lanes on Phuket’s busy main road with both front airbags deployed.

Skid marks up leading onto the central reservation showed where the vehicle had struck a tree.

Driver Yuttachai Kuenram, 24, suffered minor chest injuries.

His passenger, Waraporn Wangmuang, was on the central reservation. Rescue workers fitted a neck brace to her before taking both her and Mr Yuthachai to Thalang Hospital.

“Mr Yuthachai told us that he was driving from Phang Nga to Cherng Talay when his car slid on the wet road,” reported Lt Boonserm.

“He said he touched the brake to slow down, but the car instead slid out of control and onto the central reservation and hit the tree,” he added.

Mr Yuthachai was charged with reckless driving, Lt Boonserm confirmed.

Captain Jack69 unfortunately you are wrong, doesn't matter if 4 wheel drive is selected, you only have "grip" when the rubber of the tyre is in contact with the road, aquaplaning is when the water and the speed you are travelling exceeds the tyres grooves to clear the water on the road surface, once you exceed this ability the tyres no longer have grip as they are not in contact with the road surface and you will just slide uncontrollably.

Hahaha, Aquaplaning means SPEED!
Another incompetent driver who not adjust in time to circumstances of road/weather.
So pathetic.

Is there a rule/law in Thailand that when the driver get charged with reckless driving, a car insurance has not to pay for the damage?
Because, if a car insurance is paying for damages like this, other normal drivers have at the end fork up the money in their next year premium.

Insurance companies make money, not loose money.

An important detail (I think so anyway) is if he had it in 4 wheel drive. All except the most basic Pajero's have it, but it needs to be manually engaged by the driver.

Obviously it should have been engaged, but one wonders...

Also obviously the drivers fault and not the road's or the rain's (especially if the 4 wheel drive wasn't on).

Yes it's the rain's fault or perhaps the tree should not have been there, it's never excessive speed for the conditions and drivers fault, although good to see this driver was charged.
