The accident took place while he was driving through rain from his friend’s house in Chalong back to Kathu. He reportedly lost control on a bend near the Le Meridian Phuket resort and hit a power pole.
The rescue team took around 10 minutes to extract Capt Thanakrit from his car and rushed him to Patong Hospital. From there he was transferred to Bangkok Hospital Phuket, where he died from serious internal injuries.
He was reportedly not wearing his safety belt.
