Phuket Police investigate death of American, 24

He had arrived in Phuket on February 3, one day after his brother. The brothers had stayed together for the first two days before the deceased decided to go and stay alone on February 5.

The brother of the deceased flew back to the US on the evening of February 7. After they had parted ways, the young American had gone out to drink in Patong.

“A hotel security guard who was the last person to have seen him alive said that he had arrived back to the hotel alone and seemed drunk and went straight to his room,” Pol Sub Lt Ronnaphom Phumpoon of Cherng Talay police said.

“He had a late checkout on that day and he stayed in his room all day long.”

Around 10.30pm when the night shift Front Office Manager checked the list of guests, he noticed that he had not yet checked out and upon failing to contact him via phone, went up to his room.

There was a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door, after the staff’s knocks were not answered, they opened the door to find the American man deceased on the bed.

“They were not sure whether he was dead or not, so they called the Rescue Foundation and police,” Lt Ronnaphom said.

When the police arrived, they found medicine beside his bed but could not confirm whether that was the cause of death.

His body has been sent to Thalang hospital for autopsy.
