Phuket man nabbed with over a kilo of marijuana

PHUKET: A 28-year-old Phuket man was arrested in Wichit yesterday (Aug 24) when he was found to be in possession of over a kilo of marijuana. Police said they had been monitoring the man’s activities for a number of weeks.

Anti-narcotics police led by Phuket City Police’s Maj Rittichai Chumchuy arrested Mr Nopparut Tongsaereekul at a rented house on Wirat Hongyok Rd in Wichit at 4:30pm yesterday when he was found in possession of six packs of marijuana totalling 1.34kg.

According to the police report, after anti-narcotics police learned that Nopparat had been selling drugs to teenagers and dealers in Wichit and nearby areas undercover were sent to monitor his activities.

The officers learned that Nopparat used the rented home as a place for users to take drugs and to sell drugs. Then at 3:30pm yesterday police received a tip-off from undercover officers that Nopparat had marijuana in his possession and that he was waiting to distribute it to his clients.

A team of police arrived at the home and conducted a search where they found a bag containing three packs of marijuana totalling 1.32kg in the fridge, they also found another three packs totalling 20.83 grammes in the kitchen.

During the raid police also seized from Nopparat drug taking paraphernalia.

In the police report it states that Nopparat told police that he bought the marijuana from a man in Bangkok named only as Ann (real name unknown) via a Facebook page.

He said he ordered had ordered the drug many times from Ann, and that prior to his arrest he had bought two kilos which was sent to his rented home on Aug 16.

Nopparat was taken to Wichit Police Station where he is facing the charge of possession of Category 5 drug with intent to sell.

The article forgot to mention that the BIB also confiscated over 10 bags of potato chips and a case of Beng-Beng double chocolate bars.  I also heard that neither the weed nor the snacks made it back to the police station.  The BIBs are investigating.
