The warning follows Thai tourist Atittan Kanchanawatthana, 27, being rescued on Wednesday (Oct 26), explained Phuket Lifeguard Club Chief Prathaiyuth Chuayuan.
The Royal Thai Navy 3rd Area rescue team and the Karon Municipality rescue team called to help recover Mr Atittan at 4:20pm.
“He was administered first aid on the beach and taken to Patong Hospital for further medical attention,” Mr Prathaiyuth told The Phuket News.
“He was overpowered by strong waves and pulled awy from the beach, and he nearly drowned,” he said.
Mr Prathaiyuth said lifeguards had saved 10 tourists at Kata Beach and seven tourists at Karon Beach since the beginning of October.
“The worst case was a Chinese tourist who was rescued from the water at 7:30am on Oct 18. He was unresponsive and lifeguards had to revive him on the beach,” Prathaiyuth added.
