Dome managed to win the favour of the public and beat fellow finalist Tanatat ‘Kangsomm’ Chaiyaat in the live finals, held on Sunday at the Impact Arena in Bangkok.
21-year-old Dome, who attended Phuket Wittayalai School, will need to juggle his new found super-stardom with his studies – he is currently a second-year law student at Thammasat University.
Dome decided to compete in The Star contest for the prize money, which he plans to use to support his disabled father, who is confined to a wheelchair after suffering a stroke.
Big things are ahead for the young Phuket star. He has signed a contract with Thai entertainment giant GMM Grammy, and has already recorded his first single, A thi taan tang nam ta (Make a wish when you cry).
In 2008, fellow Phuketian Wichayanee “Gam” Pearklin was the first winner from the island, and the first female winner of the competition.
Governor Tri Augaradacha said that the island will give Dome a special welcome when he comes home, followed by a parade around the island “to let him say thanks to his fans”.
Dome will also sing at the opening ceremony of Phuket National Youth Games at Surakul Stadium on May 26, the governor said.
Gov Tri said he was very proud of the young singer.
