Phuket International Boat Show expands with market, superyachts

PHUKET: Four months out from the next Phuket International Boat Show (PIMEX), to be held at the award-winning Royal Phuket Marina in January 2017, and both the Exhibition Hall and In-Water locations are starting to fill, reports organiser Andy Dowden.

Yet still building on the success of more than 13 years in organising the expo, Andy Dowden this year will introduce two new attractions to the popular event: a Mariner’s Market; and a exclusive section dedicated to showcasing superyachts.

“For the first at time at PIMEX, we are dedicating a section of the Exhibition Hall as a Mariners Market, which will allow marine accessories dealers, fishing tackle suppliers and sports clothing vendors an entry into the show,” Mr Dowden explained.

“Plans are still evolving for the superyacht section of the show,” he added. “This unique event will be held on a nearby private island, Koh Rang Noi, located just 10 minutes from the marina by luxury shuttle launch for invited and VIP guests.”

Returning as a mainstay exhibitor will be Multihull Solutions. “Asia-Pacific’s leading dealer and distributor of multihull sail and power yachts are back again for the fourth year since opening their Thailand and South East Asia branch,” Mr Dowden explained.

“With headquarters in Australia, Multihull Solutions represent all the leading multihull brands, including Fountaine Pajot, Privilege, Neel Trimarans, Corsair and Tag Yachts, while their exclusive sale of five Pulse 600 catamarans into Thailand has created a new one-design class in local regattas,” he said.

“Dealing in new and pre-owned yachts the centrepiece of their display will be the unique 74ft Freizer power cat Sherkhan,” he added.

Early reservation is advised to secure the most favoured locations in the water and in the hall, Mr Dowden noted.

“Also recently joining the in-water display are Hanse Yachts with South East Asia Yacht Sales and Services displaying two yachts on D dock,” Mr Dowden told The Phuket News today (Sept 20).

“Together with Simpson Marine with six yachts from their Monte Carlo Yachts, Lagoon and Beneteau brands and Azimut with two yachts, the in-water display is shaping up,” he said.

“In the hall, Cholamark, our local RB [rigid boat] and inflatable manufacturer, will be displaying their full range of boats,” Mr Dowden said.

In 2016, the Phuket International Boat Show attracted over 120 exhibiting companies to Royal Phuket Marina with over 60 boat brands in the water – together attracting more than 5,000 visitors, including those authorised to or who influence the purchasing decisions for High Net Worth Individuals or commercial organisations that they represent.

“These visitors are high-calibre, high-spending individuals or professionals who recognise the wealth of innovation and the scope of potential that the event provides across four days every January,” Mr Dowden noted.

“With 5,000 participants attending the show, covering yachting clients, potential purchasers, professionals from the yachting and luxury markets, business decision-makers, captains and their crews, every major player in the region will be in attendance,” he said.
