Before the bus service was launched on Friday (July 19) there were lingering worries about whether some of Patong’s tuk-tuk drivers might object to the buses coming into their “territory”, but Prakob Panyawai, owner of the service, told The Phuket News today, “We have had no problem. Plus, the airport bus is really useful for local people.
“At first, it might be not be as well known as other forms of transport. I do hope that the media will help to raise awareness of it. The number of passengers travelling from the airport has been okay but we haven’t had many travelling the other way so far.
“I knew, sometime taxi drivers mutter when the bus passes them. But, Phuket people are happy and they want to use the airport bus.
“Today, Governor Maitree took the bus from the airport at 12:30 pm with about 10 of his team, and with some tourists. The Governor really wanted to know how the airport bus service works. He talked with the driver and other passengers.”
The Governor went only one way, however. When he reached Patong his driver and limo were waiting to whisk him back to work at Provincial Hall.
