Pol Maj Wallop Pitakporn of Kamala Police Station said that the alarm call came at around 4 am, to say that the Phuket Sunset Scuba & Snorkeling Center, at the Rim Haad Rd intersection, was on fire.

No one was hurt in the fire. However, by the time firemen reached the site, there was not much left apart from ashes; the shop was made from highly flammable materials, such as palm thatching.

The dive shop is owned by Jiraporn Jomchoo, 25, who runs the business.

Damage from the fire was estimated at B1 million. Police are investigating the cause of the blaze; a foreign investor in the business was said by local people to be unpopular.
