Chanchai Duangjitt, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand's Phuket branch, said more than 5,000 bikers had joined the event this year.
“This year we have welcomed bikers from around the world. The bikers, along with their companions, total around 30,000 people coming to Phuket.
“This is a huge event and I'm sure it will bring a lot of good things for Phuket, in many different ways.”
Today's opening ceremony included a display by the Royal Thai Navy, a Miss Phuket Bike Week competition, and lots of big bikes on display.
Phuket Bike Week 2013 runs until April 21, at Loma Park in Patong.
