Phuket Airport calls on travellers to prevent terminal confusion

PHUKET: Management at Phuket International Airport is calling on passengers to check their flight tickets to prevent confusion over which terminal to check-in at when departing Phuket.

Confusion has reigned since the opening of the new International Terminal on Sept 16, with travellers unsure of which terminal to check-in at when boarding a connecting outbound flight through Bangkok.

“Since the opening of the new International Terminal, many passengers are not sure where to check-in and most drivers just drop off passengers at the old terminal,” one airport staffer, who asked not to be named, told The Phuket News just days after Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha officially declared the new terminal.

“We have even seen some passengers drag their luggage from terminal to the other,” he said. (See story here.)

There have been so many passengers arriving at the wrong terminals that the airport is now operating a shuttle service between the two main buildings, Somsak Pakdeerak, Deputy Director of Phuket International Airport, told The Phuket News today.

“Currently, we are providing a shuttle bus for passenger in case they go to wrong terminal,” he said.

Mr Somsak urged travellers to check their flight tickets before beginning their journey to the airport so that their driver can deliver them to the correct terminal.

“If people are unsure whether the flight they are boarding is a domestic or international flight, they should check with their booking agency,” he said.

“We are updating our website to explain to passengers which terminal to go to. This should be ready next month,” Mr Somsak added.

Meanwhile, Phuket Airport has issued a map of the new International Terminal.

“This will be available from our website, and at the airport terminal itself, soon,” Mr Somsak said.

Swerv: The more you react, the more you confirm a show of incompetence of Phuket Airport.
True and proven remarks about mismanagement are not 'derogatory', as you wrote.
The thai mess at Phuket Airport, even about the most simple things as having enough immigration computers earlier in time, speaks for it selves. 
Not yet talking again about that it seems so difficult to direct tourists to the correct terminal for departure..
It is a thai airport management issue. Nothing more, nothing less.
Direct your comment in that direction, be constructive.

Andy, in your case you can check in at domestic terminal and label through your check in luggage to your international destination if you fly domestic to BKK first.
In Bangkok you can pass immigration down stairs at the level you leave your arriving aircraft from Phuket. 
Also over there you can get your boarding pass for your international flight.
It is just a walk till the end of the corridor.
Very quick, very smooth. Don't go upstairs for it in BKK.
I do that several times a year. Works perfect.

I always avoid the Immigration at Phuket airport. ( two ways)
In BKK it is quick and smooth.
Problem with Phuket airport immigration is that they know very well what are the peak hours of arrivals and departures.
( you can read that in PN reporting lately)
Problem is, the Phuket airport immigration seem not to understand that you have to work flexy hours at immigration desks, depend on number of arrival/departing passengers at same time. They not have the feeling of 'to serve'.
Just 1 flight, less officers, more flights at same period of time, full occupancy of all desks.
It is all so 'off the world', same as Phuket airport management. Completely lack of today needed management skills.
Phuket airport needs quick, before high season starts, a flexible, adjustable, more international thinking and working management at all disciplines.
The old days are over. They themselves want more-more-more.
That requires managers with more skills, more-more-more skills.
Well , than of course you must have computers at all your desks, right? Not like this present situation.
They not think that much many months in advance prior opening international terminal Phuket airport..

Just thainess, laugh about it and let us not take it to serious. 
Thai don't want to be confronted with seriousness. It always must be 'nice'.
Some day 'soon' , can take months, it will work.

Simon01. Very true what you said.
However, we have to realize that many of these travelers travel abroad first time. 
And that even to a confusing thai Phuket airport where many things happens 'stone aged'.
Mafia practice/intimidation  in taxi and Mini Van transport, etc
Phuket domestic/international airport management has to take the responsibility to direct these foreign travelers and free them of dropping intimidated by transport maffia at old departure terminal.
(a sort of: get out of my car, and find your way.  No service)
After all, Phuket makes a lot of money by having these tourists arriving and departing..
At least Airport management can show involvement, which is more than a nothing saying smile.

Simon01  it's not about knowing whether you are international or internal it's the fact that there is almost no road signs for the entrance for the new airport, the only sign i saw was for freight and not passengers so i drove past the "freight" entrance only to find that it is also the passenger entrance too!

On another note,  my flight from Don meuang said terminal 2 on my flight details from Nok air at Bangkok, i went there and it wasn't terminal 2 but terminal 1, i pointed this out to the check in staff who had no interest in the matter whatsoever! So much for customer service, however, i bet it would be the same in my country too!!

Why not yesterday?  This is not 'soon'!

How about a practical solution for the time being?
Post a number of airport stewards outside the old departure hall.
Let them as the departing passengers when these are still in taxi or mini van what flight they take.
If international, direct the taxi or minivan driver to the new terminal, and give these 'professional' drivers a educative brochure ( in thai)
In just 1 week all taxi and minivan drivers will know the drill. Problem solved.
Than 'we' not have to wait for that 'next month' new web site first.
Keep matters simple. such is difficult on Phuket, I know, but try it.

It is all about just 1 simple question of the thai taxi or minivan driver:
.." Sir, you fly international or domestic"... 
 
What is the problem here?
The head line of this article says it all:
.." Phuket Airport calls on travelers to prevent terminal confusion"..
Typical thai to hide/denie their own incompetence with such saying!
It are not the travelers but Phuket Airport that has to run these matters in a way that it not confuse the travelers.
