The fight was part of a charity boxing event, which raised B2 million to help police in flood-stricken areas of Thailand’s south.
The drawcard though was the bout between Phuket’s top cop, Police Commander Maj Gen Pekad Tantipong, and Somjit Jongjorhor, a Thai boxer who won the gold medal in the men’s flyweight 51 kilogram final at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
The two went toe-to-toe for the scheduled two rounds, before the crowd cheered them on for a third. The fight remained friendly though, and no winner was declared.
Gov Tri acted as the referee.
The event was held at the Sapan Hin Sport Complex in Phuket Town, and also featured another 14 fights including Thai and foreign boxers.
