The Chicago Sun-Times announced last week that it was making redundant all 28 of its full-time photographers, including Pulitzer Prize winner John H. White.
In a statement, the newspaper’s executives explained that they wanted to concentrate less on news photography, and more on using freelancers to produce video content.
“We have had to restructure the way we manage multimedia, including photography, across the network,” the statement said.
“Our audiences are consistently seeking more video content with their news.”
Now reporters will use their iPhones to take photos and videos, and do double-duty producing content for print and online.
