Pattaya man commits suicide following domestic abuse arrest

PATTAYA: An air-conditioning technician who was reportedly devastated that his wife reported allegations of domestic abuse against him at Banglamung Police Station appears to have taken his own life at his apartment in South Pattaya on Tuesday afternoon (December 18).

Police Colonel Supashai, the new Chief of Banglamung Police responded to reports of the alleged suicide at the property in Soi Sukhumvit 73 close to the Highway Police Station.

Inside their small rented apartment was the body of Ootit, aged 36. He was hanging from a noose made from nylon cord attached to a hook embedded into a wooden roof beam.

Also present was the victim’s wife, Nalisarar, aged 29, who told us how she had reported her husband for domestic abuse and as a result he spent 24 hours behind bars before being released on Tuesday morning.

When he returned home he reportedly struck his wife who fled and made her way to the police station again to report the incident. She returned to the room with police who found Ootit hanging from the roof beam.

Police confirmed there were no signs of foul play but they will wait for the results of a postmortem examination before closing the case.
