Patong detective injured in road smash

PHUKET: A Patong police detective was injured after the car he was driving smashed into an electricity pole on Sunday morning in Rassada district and ended up in a water-filled ditch.

The cause of the crash is yet to be determined

Toong Tong police were notified at 4.30am on Sunday morning of the crash, which happened at the three-way intersection at Pra Phuket Kaew Rd.

At the scene they found the car half submerged in the roadside ditch.

Rescue foundation staff removed the driver, identified as Patong station Investigations Division detective Pol Capt Jakrapongs Leuong-On, who was taken to Bangkok Hospital Phuket for treatment for leg and chest injuries.

An unidentified witness to the incident told police: “The car was proceeding at high speed when it crashed hard into an electric pole in the centre-divider.

"The wheel and half-shaft broke off as a result, and then the car plunged out of control into the ditch.”
