Thanaphol Phatkaew, 34, presented himself at Patong Police Station at 3:30pm yesterday afternoon and handed in a 9mm Glock handgun used in the shooting.

Thanapol was wanted by police for shooting Sayan Padungsap, 35, in a fit of rage at about 3:30am yesterday. Several vehicles were struck by bullets in the shooting. (See story here.)

Mr Sayan sustained gunshot wounds to his abdomen (left side), hip (back right), left foot and lower left leg. He is currently receiving treatment at Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket Town.

“Sayan and Thanaphol were embroiled in an argument in the parking lot, where Thanaphol shot Sayan four times before fleeing the scene in his pickup truck,” Patong Deputy Police Chief Lt Col Somsak Thongkleang told The Phuket News.

“Thanaphol worked as a tout on Bangla Rd, and he and Sayan knew each other,” Col Somsak said.

“We agreed to meet at the car park to settle a dispute,” Thanaphol told police.

“Sayan used abusive language toward me and called my parents names,” he added.

Patong Police have now charged Thanaphol with attempted murder, carrying a firearm and ammunition in a public place and firing a firearm in a public place.

For reference, the gun homicide rate in Thailand is approximately the same as it is in the United States. In other words, unacceptably high - but this problem is certainly not unique to Thailand.

I like the way he turned himself in. Sign of true man who admits when he has done wrong and steps forward to take his punishment.

I certainly wouldn't agree that..."this is not how normal human beings act." Ever since we have been cavemen we have been killing one another. Sometimes we wipe out a whole city or 2, killing over 200,000 with just one or two bombs! or blow up shoppers in a marketplace.

Scary little punk, and scary to think how many more just like him there are roaming the island. What is it with these animals where a simple argument or disagreement turns into a gunfight? Mental illness is rampant...this is not how normal human beings act.

It is scary to see how self confident this attempted murderer
is sitting in the police station, like he is the chairman of a meeting.
Wonder what normal thai citizens feel about this, something what day happens daily in buddhist Thailand.

---I not like you in our discussion, so I shoot you to kill.... Mental ill?
