Thanaphol Phatkaew, 34, presented himself at Patong Police Station at 3:30pm yesterday afternoon and handed in a 9mm Glock handgun used in the shooting.
Thanapol was wanted by police for shooting Sayan Padungsap, 35, in a fit of rage at about 3:30am yesterday. Several vehicles were struck by bullets in the shooting. (See story here.)
Mr Sayan sustained gunshot wounds to his abdomen (left side), hip (back right), left foot and lower left leg. He is currently receiving treatment at Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket Town.
“Sayan and Thanaphol were embroiled in an argument in the parking lot, where Thanaphol shot Sayan four times before fleeing the scene in his pickup truck,” Patong Deputy Police Chief Lt Col Somsak Thongkleang told The Phuket News.
“Thanaphol worked as a tout on Bangla Rd, and he and Sayan knew each other,” Col Somsak said.
“We agreed to meet at the car park to settle a dispute,” Thanaphol told police.
“Sayan used abusive language toward me and called my parents names,” he added.
Patong Police have now charged Thanaphol with attempted murder, carrying a firearm and ammunition in a public place and firing a firearm in a public place.
