The first 54 channels will charge monthly fees starting at US$0.99 (B28). The programming includes everything from UFC fights to kids programming and comedy specials.
All channels are required to offer a 14-day free trial and discounted yearly rates.
Additional channels are expected to join the first 54 paid channels on Youtube, though other content makers will have to meet a set of prerequisites set by Google.
As one of the four sports outlets to join the new pay-to-view model, fight channel UFC Select, is expected to become one of the biggest services, with a price tag of US$5.99 (B150) per month.
Along with behind-the-scenes content and past fight videos, the company expects to eventually broadcast their pay-per-vew main events on the new service.
“We’ve had a great presence on Youtube,” said UFC Senior VP of Digital Edward Muncey. “We look at this as another way for people to access content. We’ll have no ads. We’ve chosen not to.”
Other launch channels include PGA Golf Academy (B150), Laugh Factory (B90), and Jim Henson Family TV (B90).
