Yesterday witnesses who spoke with The Phuket News blamed the driver of the Po Tong for the accident, but today police said that, after interviewing witnesses and the Po Tong driver, they had come to the conclusion that it was the tourist’s fault.
Pol Lt Col Yongyuth Krongmalai of Phuket City Police told The Phuket News that Mr Kulaein was careless crossing the road in front of the Lan Nawamin auditorium.
“He did not notice the bus while he was crossing the road,” Col Yongyuth said. “The bus was unable to stop in time and hit him.”
He added, however, that he had been told the OrBorJor, which operates the pink bus service “is pleased to compensate him”.
