Navy to practice air-sea rescue

PHUKET: The Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command will carry out a full-scale search and rescue exercise using helicopters next Tuesday (July 10), in the sea off Cape Panwa.

Wednesday 4 July 2012 06:04 PM

The exercise is being held partly in order to reassure local people and visitors about their safety in the case of a marine disaster such as a ship sinking, a tsunami or a violent storm. It will be staged from 9am to 11.30am and will also involve organisations such as the Kusondharm Rescue Foundation

Navy Capt Prinyatham Poonpitagtham explained, “We would like to show what we can do if there is a disaster. Phuket is a tourist destination, so the security of tourists is a priority.”

Around 500 Phuket students have been invited to watch the event.
