NBTC member Prawit Leesatapornwongsa explained that mobile phone service providers are now not allowed to charge more than 99 satang a minute for any domestic call.
He said the fee cap was originally supposed to have come into effect on April 4 last year, but the mobile service operators were allowed to charge their existing fees until contracts with their clients expired – but not later than December 31, 2012.
The new regulation takes promotional packages into account, meaning that mobile operators will be in violation of the law if fees for packages average out at higher than 99 satang per minute.
He warned major operators AIS and DTAC not to continue to offer promotional packages that violate the new law, or they would face prosecution.
