If PCC fails to do so by April 17, it will face a civil suit demanding B5.8 million a day in damages, national police chief Gen Adul Saengsingkaew announced today (March 14).
PCC was awarded the sole contract for 396 police station buildings in all nine police regions, including several in Phuket. The contract, after several extensions, expired today, March 14.
Most of the work remains unfinished and the sites have been abandoned.
Pol Gen Adul said although the contract expired today and PCC was still unable to complete the job, because the project involves a very large budget, about B5.8 billion, it is necessary to give the contractor a little time to hand over the work it has already done to the RTPO.
Therefore, the RTPO decided to extend the contract for 30 days, and give PCC until April 17.
If PCC was still unable to complete the job, the RTPO would terminate the contract on April 18 and ask the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) to file a civil suit against the firm demanding B5.8 million baht a day in damages.
Fresh bids would then be called for the work in all police regions, Pol Gen Adul said.
Pol Gen Ek Angsananont, a deputy national police chief, said the RTPO would notify the PCC tomorrow (March 15) of the contract extension and formally ask it to honour the contract.
Pol Gen Worapong Chiewpreecha, also a deputy national police chief, said criminal action would later be taken against PCC, as set down in the law, to protect the interests of the RTPO and the country.
PCC also received a separate contract to build 163 accommodation blocks for police officers. Few if any of those have been completed.
