Millions in damage expected from Bangla tailor shop fire

PHUKET: No casualties or injuries have yet been reported from a fire that is thought to have caused millions in damage to at least two properties in Phuket's premier party town.

A small panic was caused on the party street of Soi Bangla as many tourists and local employees ran for safety when the fire broke out at a suit tailor shop just after midnight.

At least one Thai national was taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation, but has since been discharged.

At least five fire trucks from the local municipality were used to douse the fire. Police are still investigating the cause of the fire and a full assessment of the damage is still pending.

malczx7r,... Yes, it is as you wrote.
Let up hope that Joe12 also not overlook your comment due to his fast-reading, and is willing to accept that electric works are not not up to 'standard' after reading your professional comment.

And for swerv: Stop saying that Thailand is a developing country.
Try to encourage Thailand to adopt quicker simple standard norms.
I mention S'pore as a standard example to adapt.

Changes, improvements, it all start with talking about it.
Not in keep hanging in that phrase 'developing country' and remain passive/not improve.
Thailand is a fine country and it deserves better quality/standard/functioning of things.
All for the benefit of the thai people.

I really cannot support this "Go home if you don't like it.." basis for discussion. Not only is it ineffective, but it's intellectually lazy-somewhat akin to telling someone to stop reading comments if they don't like them.

I agree with Kurt, as an electrician for 30 years, the standard of electrical work and regulations is way below anything i have ever come across before, it's appalling! Downright dangerous in fact!

Kurt: Why do you keep comparing Phuket to Singapore? This is Thailand which is still a developing country. I accept the anomalies here, it's a part of life in this amazing country.
You clearly don't like it here with your daily whinging and moaning.

Thailand is my home. And yes, I don't like fires.
Seems this Joe12 likes it.
Again he not writes his own comment.
He use the word 'we', as he speaks for others as well. Shallow.

Anyone else who can convince this Joe12 that many electric works here are not up to standard, as he said?

'Must be' or 'are' , it are two different things.

This is not the first tailor shop in that area going up in fire.

Kurt...if you don't like it, go back home. That way we don't hear you whinge. Fires occur everywhere and anywhere. Given that you know all the answers, you should be contacting the Fire Investigators. You wrong again electric works must be up to standard.

Investigation not needed. It is very simple.
Inferior electric works. Not done up to Singapore standards.
A few sparks, no sprinkler system, and there you go.

Full assessment still pending? What a joke.
I am sure it was not a heater forgotten to switch off. :)
A good insurance company not refund a single thb.
Wait for the next shop, always the same.

Perhaps next time a disco there again? ( 3rd time)

What are by now fire prevention matters in Patong after so many fires in disco's and shops?
Are there any?
