An Italian man, Luciano Butti, believed to be in his 60s, was shot dead near Bang Pae Waterfall in Tambon Pa Khlok yesterday evening.
The body of the man was discovered 200m from the entrance of the waterfall.
He had been shot four times, said Rorchard Thorthip, Kamnan of Pa Khlok.
The man had apparently arrived from Phi Phi yesterday in order to attend a court hearing today in Phuket. Details of the court case are not yet known.
A witness living nearby, who asked not to be named, said he heard one shot at 9:50 pm. A few minutes later he heard three more shots. He went to investigate and found the victim lying face down nearby.
Not far away was the victim’s rented motorcycle, its engine still running. The witness’s wife then called the police.
He added that when he reached the victim, Mr Butti was still breathing but died a few minutes later, before police or emergency services arrived on the scene.
