A man, armed with a knife, robbed a currency exchange booth at the Karon Circle on
Patak Road in Karon on Saturday night (November 26) and made off with two
million baht in cash.
One of two staff who were at the booth, Amnart Polpramul, 26, told Chalong police
that the robbery happened at about 8pm after staff had just closed the Siam
Commercial Bank currency booth for the night.
He said a Thai man, aged about 25, pointed a knife at his waist while he was
outside the booth ready to transport the day’s cash to the Siam Commercial Bank’s
Karon branch.
The robber forced Mr Amnart to get back into the booth and he and the other staff member Wilailak
Khaowong, 22, were then ordered to load the mixed currencies into the man’s
bag.
The man taped the mouths, hands and feet of both staff before fleeing from the
scene. The two staff later managed to get free and run out to call for help.
A witness told Chalong police that he saw a man sitting in front of the booth 30 minutes before it was robbed.
